Regenerative Medicine Q & A

What is hyaluronic acid?

It works by acting as a lubricant and shock absorber in the joints reducing the inflammation & pain caused by the wear and tear of normal daily activity.

What is prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy works by stimulating the body’s natural healing response injections to contain a natural substance such as dextrose, saline or serapin to produce a mild inflammatory response encouraging the growth of the new tissue, stabilizing the joint.

What is prp? (platelet rich plasma)

In prp therapy, the patient’s own blood is drawn and spun down in a centrifuge. this separates out the concentrated platelets and growth factors. using a diagnostic ultrasound machine to identify the injured tissue. the physician injects the prp directly into the injured area where the platelets and growth factors become activated and begin the regeneration of new tissue.

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative Medicine is a minimally invasive procedure involving the injection of a natural substance designed to stimulate the body's healing response.  Stem cells are one of the best options with a very high success rate. Once Injected into the injured or damaged tissue, the stem cells differentiate and replicate to repair the damaged tissue, alleviating pain and restoring function.

Other regenerative treatment options may be recommended depending on the patients age and the nature of the injury.

How does regenerative medicine work?

When stem cells are introduced into your body tissues, the stem cells identify the surrounding tissues and begin to differentiate into the cellular precursors to bone, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Over several weeks to months, the cells grow in size to repair the damaged original tissues.

Stem cells also include immune cells and naturally occurring anti-inflammatory chemicals to fight off infections and reduce inflammation. These properties also help prevent your immune system from rejecting the therapy or attacking it as a foreign invader, like your immune system would if a virus or bacterium entered your body.

What can I expect when getting regenerative medicine therapy?

The Regenerative Medicine Center of Southern California team utilizes the highest safety measures and only uses the best quality regenerative medicine products. Once you’re ready for your injection, your practitioner first cleans your skin over the treatment site.

Using a thin, sterile syringe, your practitioner carefully injects the regenerative medicine product into the treatment site. You may feel a mild prick or pinching sensation when the needle is inserted, similar to having blood drawn. Once the injection is complete — which takes less than 10 minutes — your practitioner cleans your skin and covers the area with a bandage.

After your visit, you can immediately return to your normal activities. Some mild soreness or redness at the injection site is normal for one to two days. Your practitioner may recommend a series of treatments over several weeks or months in order to see the best results.
